Alternative Breaks is committed to keeping our community safe.

Safety is our priority.

Alternative Breaks is, above all else, committed to ethical service. Simply put, service looks different in the midst of a pandemic. In a time where isolation and physical distance are vital from a public health perspective, it is even more important to stay connected from a distance and support our communities. As such, Alternative Breaks is committed to providing meaningful, safe, and exciting volunteer experiences.

We are working with our community partners to provide in-person service opportunities where physical distancing and heightened safety precautions are possible. For sites that relied heavily on physical contact, we are developing virtual opportunities, donation drives, and other avenues to support our partners. We are also excited to announce several new service opportunities as we adapt to what service looks like now.

Alternative Breaks will continue to provide ethical service education as a component of participation. Now, more than ever, a focus on ethical service is crucial, and something that will remain a primary focus of Alternative Breaks.

We understand that volunteering is a pivotal aspect of the KU experience and Alternative Breaks will continue to keep the spirit of service alive from a distance in new and exciting ways. We hope you will look into these resources if you are interested in how you can volunteer during these trying times.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
